October 13, 2014 - Much Ado About ... Everything!

Autumn is truly here, but cold nights haven't descended upon us yet.  Colors are showing in the hills (mountains to N.C. folk), but we think the peak will come next week.  We are planning a drive then to take pictures.

Since our last post Laurel had a birthday.  We spent the day doing what we should (missionary work) with our Elders, then we went to a bbq rib dinner in the evening.  A relaxing movie on Netflix topped off the day.  Thanks to everyone who sent cards and wishes, made calls, or other.  It was a good day!

September 20 was a special day in the Murphy Branch.  Jeff Frady, who was baptized only one month before we got here, received his endowment in the Atlanta Temple and was sealed to his lovely wife, Cori.  Half the Branch made the trip to be with them.  It was a wonderful day filled with the Spirit and love of the Lord.  Jeff is a fine mountain man, whom we love dearly.  We feel certain he will lead the Branch one day.

That same weekend our mission friends, the Roners, spent a few days with us.  It was such fun to see them again, laugh, talk, eat, laugh, talk, eat.  They were in the mission office during their term of service.

We have been taking Bill Boyd, a special needs fellow, to quite a few events lately.  He gets very lonely during the week while his family works out-of-town.  Sometimes we take him to lunch, or to FHA, or to the store, etc.  He is a crack-up with his statements like, "Slow your roll, bro!"

Lynn has been learning how to be a good ward clerk.  He isn't called as one, but he is trying to help the Branch Clerk out.  The membership records really need some updating, so the Branch President authorized him to be a "temporary" clerk.  It's a big job, but he enjoys it.

Both of us get turns to teach classes in church, as well as trainings in District and Zone Meetings.  It is a good thing that we have a lot of experience in this, because you never
know if you will have a week or a few minutes to prepare.

After a small fender-bender several weeks ago, we finally got the car repaired.  It looked great, but NOT!!  Today as we were washing the car, the paint on the repaired bumper started washing off in giant pieces!  Back to the shop on Monday!!

General Conference was a boost for us!  We always look forward to hearing the inspiring messages of our leaders.  The Spirit bears witness to us of the truth of the gospel, which we all need in these troubled times.  Amid controversy about so many vital issues in the world, it is even more necessary that we are founded in obedience to  God's word.  It may not be convenient or popular, but knowing that it is what He wants from us will carry us through.

Laurel had a heyday doing some shopping at the Fall Folk School Festival, acquiring some items she wants to take home with us.  Some are small, some not so small.  :)  Add to that the Amish rocking chair she wants, and we'll be towing a U-Haul trailer home!

She has missed her creative outlets, so when the R.S. President asked her to decorate the Relief Society room for autumn, she had fun!  It turned out lovely, and she was satisfied.

One of our recent converts, who is only 27 years old, has been in the hospital for over a month.  She contracted spinal meningitis, which settled on her mitral valve in the heart.  That caused two strokes, a brain bleed and an access on the brain.  She has been SOOO
sick.  The doctors didn't know if she would pull through.  She finally is beginning to make some progress.  The heart valve is destroyed and will have to be replaced in a few weeks when she is well enough.  She has had blessings that promised her that she will recover.
Her faith and many others' has grown and played a vital part.  We keep praying for her and all her caregivers.  Her case has been a real challenge for them.

The Book of Mormon is true!  The priesthood is the power and authority of God!  Jesus Christ loves ALL people!  His church is restored in it's fulness today and is led by Him!
We have living prophets to lead us through Christ's direction!  We may not have the answers to all our questions, but Heavenly Father knows the answers.  In due time and through our obedience and faithfulness, He will reveal those answers to us.  We LOVE
Him and His Son!

And we love you!!
